Subject: New Gold Tone Banjo
Date: Tue, 28 May 2002 13:25:57 -0400

Dear Mickey,
I received my new Gold Tone Banjo[OB250+ last week and I am extremely pleased. Not only does it have better sustain than my BG 250F it also just has a better "ring" to its sound.
In addition to being very happy with my banjo I just wanted to let you know that during the two purchases I have made with FOTW the staff have been extremely courteous and helpful.
At present, I think that my present banjo will meet my banjo playing needs for quite a while. If I have a change of heart and decide to move up again [the Wildwood Paragon makes me crazy! please be assured that I will definitely call FOTW.
Thank You, Charlie Pyatt

Brian,

Thanks for your persistence. Part of why I felt comfortable referring my
brother to you is that you seem to have a great grasp on how to do customer
service online (without losing the Folky flavor!)

Thanks, Jim Hardy

Subject: Re: Fwd: Fingerpicking patterns

Mickey,
Thank you for taking the time to give me such detailed instruction. It will be extremely helpful. I understand about mastering the technique then forgetting about it; it works that way in most artistic endeavors.  With my flat-picking, at some point years ago it suddenly became almost totally automatic, yet varied in style. I expect that if I keep plugging away with fingerpicking, eventually my fingers and natural spontenaety will link together and I won't have to think about it anymore. Your tips will ensure that I don't ingrain bad habits along the way that may then have to be unlearned.

Take care!

Subject: Folk of the Wood Testimonial - LONG
Date: Thu, 23 May 2002 14:35:06 -0500

I've just completed a couple transactions with "Folk of the Wood" in Ruidoso
New Mexico, and I've gotta tell you, those folks really took care of me.

http://www.folkofthewood.com/

First I started bugging them about my interest in a Beard Vintage Birch
resophonic guitar. I had some questions about it that Mickey Cochran (the
owner) answered promptly via .

I didn't have the money to buy it right then, so I took advantage of their
layaway program... I used PayPal to pay them fifty bucks, and they put the
instrument on hold for me (I knew I could pay the balance in a week or two).

http://www.folkofthewood.com/page443.htm#layaway

Then I had some questions about what my particular instrument looked like...
the one on the website was quite attractive:

http://www.folkofthewood.com/page1569.htm

...and the high resolution images really showed great detail. But I also
looked at Elderley's page on the same instrument, and it differed from
FotW's page in several respects, so I ed Mickey again to ask him about
the appearance of the particular one they had on hold for me.

Mickey went and got mine out of the warehouse, drug it into his photo
studio, and did a complete photo montage of MY instrument, (just like the
one on the above referenced page) and ed the result to me so I could
really see what MY instrument looked like. I think that's pretty above and
beyond the call of duty, I was dumbfounded.

When payday came, I called them and paid it off, and I had it the next day
via FedEx overnight. It was everything I expected... superb workmanship and
sound and playability, and yep, looking at the grain and stuff it really was
the one Mickey photographed for me.

After playing it for a couple weeks I had convinced myself that I'd rather
have the fancier Beard "R Standard" mahogany model though. Normally, a
change of mind like that would cost you. You'd have to either sell your
existing instrument or trade it in, usually at a considerable loss.

Not at Folk of the Wood though. They have a policy that allows you to trade
up at any time, and 100% of what you paid goes toward the discounted price
of a more expensive instrument (doesn't even have to be the same KIND of
instrument... for instance, you could trade up from a cheap mandolin to a
more expensive banjo).

http://www.folkofthewood.com/page443.htm#tradeup

So, I ed Mickey, and he had a Beard R Standard in stock:

http://www.folkofthewood.com/page931.htm

I wiped down my less than two week old Beard Vintage Birch (which was in the
same flawless condition in which I received it), packed it securely, and
FedEx overnighted it to them. It arrived there yesterday mid-day, and all I
had to do was pay the $800 difference in price between the two instruments
(plus shipping), and this morning I picked up the R Standard at the FedEx
location around the corner from my house.

The R Standard is everything I'd hoped for... man, what a nice reso!

I am truly a VERY satisfied customer, and have no other affiliation with
Folk of the Wood. I just wanted you folks who may be in the market for a
resophonic guitar or other acoustic instrument to know about the outstanding
service this shop has provided me. I recommend them highly!

Subject: Merchant Feedback

Tiffany Velez says:

I am a 28 yr old mother of one, and after a lifetime of wanting to play the violin, my husband finally agreed to let me order one for Mother's day. Not knowing how well I would fare, I was skeptical about shelling out a lot of money for my instrument. I decided upon the Cremona SV-175 after visiting several web sites, and doing a little homework on the piece. Your web site offered not only the best price, but also the most complete package, best description, and a few basic lessons that gave me the inspiration that I needed to say to myself "I can do this!" I got my violin two days ago, and a video that I picked up at a local store. I've practiced for two hours each day now, and as far as I can tell, I'm doing pretty good... sticking with the basics, moving slow, but doing it right before I move on. I want everyone to know, that you're never too old to learn a new trick, and I'm thrilled that I'm following my childhood dream to play. I don't care if I'm ever a great violinist... I just wanted to do this for my own satisfaction. Thank you for your fantastic web site, and reasonable prices! The instrument is just what you explained it to be, and I'm not at all disappointed. Thanks again -- Tiffany

Subject: Rigel

Thanks again for all of your help. Received and played the Rigel yesterday
and I haven't done much of anything else since. It's a true joy to
play--it's comfortable, sounds great, plays well, and it's sharp looking
too!

Again, thanks for everything.

Subject: I just got my GT OB250+ !

Hi,

I just got my Gold Tone 250+ Natural from you guys yesterday and I am very happy. It is a beautiful instrument, heavy as a son-of-a-gun and the FOTW circle strap I bought with it makes it comfortable to wear.

Your sales staff was great and they made spending my money effortless, thank you!

Thanks,

Larry Czarkowski

Subject: Thank you for the Banjola!
Date: Wed, 8 May 2002 11:36:45 -0400

Hello Folk of The Wood team,

A huge 'THANK YOU' for getting the Banjola to Eagle, ID so quickly and IN
TUNE! When I originally ordered the Banjola you were out of stock and had
to back order one - and I did not expect to receive it until later this
week, but it showed up last Friday; this was a real surprise, simply
OUTSTANDING!

Suzy was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. I will be shopping at
your co-op again in the near future.

Thanks again! Beau Brown

THANK YOU so much for your prompt and helpful answer. I was getting a bit
frustrated with the strings! It is so wonderful that a stranger is willing
to take the time to help someone out. Your website will be a great resource
as I progress with my dulcimer playing. I'll spread the word to the folks
in the local dulcimer club to which I belong (Allegehny Mountain Dulcimer
Players). Thanks again,

Subject: Re: order
Date: Mon, 06 May 2002 20:00:52 -0500

Thanks so much. You are very encouraging and wonderfully communicative. Other businesses don't try to reach out like you have. I will certainly let you know how it turns out.

We'd been trying to get music books for Jason (our son), but haven't found what we wanted. I ordered from some book company at the same time I ordered the guitar, but haven't heard a single word from them. Sent them a check too. I'll dig up the papers and track them down within a day or two.

Again, thanks so much for all your help and interest. I hope you all do a rip roaring business this year. We will certainly do some advertising for you. God bless...Devon Collins.

Great website, by the way. I have looked at guitar-based websites for the
last 3-4 years and haven't seen one like yours before.

Take care,
